A Mischief of Colour Makers: A Summer Meet Up for South West Colour Makers
Saturday 19th July 1-5pm
With an optional lunch in the cafe (Neem’z Nosh) beforehand 12-1pm
Venue: Moor Imagination Centre, Buckfastleigh, Devon
Come and join us for a day time gathering of people who are practicing natural colour making for visual arts and craft, and who are based in South West England.
It’ll be an informal event, aimed at strengthening our network and fostering mutual support and learning. A space to share ideas, processes, doubts, queries and the joy of working within the landscape and ecology of South West.
The day will be loosely facilitated by Ione and Flora, prioritising getting to know each other, forming a collective map of our colour making practices in the South West, and finding potential overlaps and exchanges.
You can expect:
To meet other colour-makers from across the southwest
To have time to share your practice and hear from others
Time spent talking as a whole group and in smaller break out groups
A space for material exchange (see what to bring)
A breakout creative space for freeflow drawing and a break from talking if needed!
Price Sliding scale
Tier One: £8 (limited spaces: 5) (covers the venue hire)
Tier Two: £14 (limited spaces: 5) (covers venue hire and basic expenses of the organisers)
Tier Three: £18 (covers venue hire and basic expenses and the time of the organisers)
As this is a collaborative community event, we are aiming to keep it as affordable as possible so the fees just covering the basic costs of the event. If you are planning to join, it would help us if you can book your place as early as possible or by the 13th June so we can have a sense of numbers and budget.
If you feel like this price is prohibitive to you coming let us know.
There will be up to 25 people at the gathering.

What To Bring:
Show & Tell: Bring something to share that that is exciting you in your practice. eg: A pigment, A plant, A mineral, or A piece of work.
Collaborative Ink Drawing: Bring a handmade ink or paint to share if you can (we will bring some too!)
Material Exchange Table: A space for sharing surplus natural colour materials
What can you share that’s local to you and in abundance? All over the south west, there is an abundance of colour making natural resources. We would like to create a space where we can share our regional resources with each other.
Some examples of resources that can be abundantly available in some regions:
Foraged Earth pigments.
Surplus food waste colour plants (onion skins, avocado skins, etc).
Surplus dye plants (buddelia flowers, oak galls, tansy, rose petals etc).
Spare dye plant seeds.
Surplus plants or seedlings eg: woad, weld, and madder can be spread quickly making lots on new plants.
Spare old pots/equipment.
Lunch
You are welcome to come a bit earlier and join us for lunch in the cafe (Neem’z Nosh) 12-1pm. Just let us know by selecting that option by the 13th June so we can book a table and order from the menu in advance.
